The West Virginia community is mourning the reported death of 21-year-old Kaden Ashby of Raleigh County, who was among four people killed in a devastating single-vehicle crash on Interstate 77 in Charleston.
According to the Charleston Police Department, officers and emergency personnel responded to the crash on I-77 South near the I-77/I-64 split at approximately 10:25 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2026. The incident occurred in a heavily traveled area of Charleston and resulted in the deaths of all four occupants of the vehicle.
When members of the Charleston Police Department and Charleston Fire Department arrived at the scene, they reportedly discovered a vehicle that had sustained significant damage after leaving the interstate. Investigators’ preliminary findings indicated that the vehicle struck a concrete barrier before leaving the elevated roadway and landing in a lot below, near the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue.
The four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified the victims as James McDaniel, 20, of Raleigh County; Colten Garcia, 20, of Raleigh County; Kaden Ashby, 21, of Raleigh County; and Kaiden Radford, 21, of Raleigh County.
Kaden’s death has left family members, friends, and others who knew him facing an unimaginable loss. At just 21 years old, his life was tragically cut short, leaving loved ones to mourn the loss of a young man who still had many years and experiences ahead of him.
